Carey Mulligan was born in London, England on May 28, 1985. Carey is the daughter of Stephen, a hotel manager, and Nano, a university lecturer. On her mother’s side, she is Welsh, and on her father’s side, she is Irish. Due to the demands of her father’s hotel business, Mulligan moved to Germany when she was still a young girl.

There, She and her brother went to the International School of Düsseldorf. Eventually, the family returned to the UK, and Mulligan attended Surrey’s Woldingham School as a teenager.
