Early Life

Craig Breen was born in Waterford, Ireland on February 2, 1990. He grew up in a motorsports family. His father, Ray Breen was also a rally driver. And his uncle, Andrew Nesbitt, was a successful rally driver in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It’s no surprise, then, that Craig was drawn to the world of rally driving from a young age.

Career

Breen’s passion for motorsports began at a young age when he started racing karts. He quickly showed talent and won several championships before making the switch to rallying.

Breen’s rally driving career began in 2007 when he entered Rally Ireland. He quickly made a name for himself, winning the Irish Fiesta Sporting Trophy in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, Breen won the World Rally Championship Academy, and in 2012, he won the FIA WRC Super 2000 World Championship.

Breen’s success continued, and in 2016, he became the first Irish driver to win the Circuit of Ireland rally in 76 years. He also won the Rally Ypres and the Circuit of Munster in the same year. In 2017, Breen joined the Citroen Racing team and competed in the WRC for the first time. He achieved his first podium finish in the championship at the Rally Finland in 2018, finishing in third place.

In October 2021, Breen was announced as the lead driver for M-Sport World Rally Team for the 2022 season. He joined Adrien Fourmaux and Gus Greensmith to compete in all 13 rounds of the season. However, before the 2022 Rally Catalunya, Breen’s long-time co-driver Paul Nagle announced his retirement. James Fulton became Breen’s new co-driver ahead of the rally.

In addition to this, Breen’s move from M-Sport to Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT was confirmed for the 2023 World Rally Championship. This change of team will see him drive for a different manufacturer in the upcoming season, as he looks to compete at the highest level of the sport and add to his impressive record.
