His role as David Rose in the CBC sitcom Schitt’s Creek (2015–2020), which he co-created and co-starred in with his father Eugene Levy, brought him recognition on an international level and critical acclaim.

Dan Levy was born in 1983 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is the son of Deborah Divine and the comedic actor Eugene Levy. His mother is a Protestant, and his father is Jewish. He has an older sister, Sarah Levy, who will be starring in Schitt’s Creek, later. Levy’s family celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas, and he also has a bar mitzvah.

He completed his high school education at North Toronto Collegiate Institute before going on to study filmmaking at Ryerson University and York University.

Levy started his television career in 2006 as one of the original co-hosts of MTV Live, the now-defunct flagship program of MTV Canada. Later on, he co-hosted The After Show on MTV Canada and its various incarnations, The Hills: The After Show and The City: Live After Show. Later, He returned to hosting as a co-host of several shows like the MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet and the X-Factor pre-show.

As an acting career, he appeared in The Canadian TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation in a four-episode story arc as an actor. The show premiered as a TV movie called Degrassi Goes Hollywood. Together with his father Eugene Levy and the principals Andrew Barnsley and Fred Levy, Levy formed Not a Real Company Productions in 2015. Their first project was a television pilot with CBC that gave rise to Schitt’s Creek. He starred alongside his father, sister Sarah Levy, Chris Elliott, Annie Murphy, Catherine O’Hara, and others.
