Kathleen Kennedy is an American film producer. She is one of the most successful and respected producers and executives in the film industry today. In 1981, she co-founded the production company Amblin Entertainment alongside Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshal in 1981.

Her first film as a producer was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). Ten years later she produced the Jurassic Park franchise alongside Steven Spielberg again, the first two of which became the top 10 highest-grossing films of the 1990s. In 2012 she became the president of Lucas Film.

Early Life

Kathleen Kennedy was born on the 5th of June, 1953 in California. Kennedy is the daughter of Gionee and Donald Kennedy. She has two sisters. Are twin sisters, Connie is formerly a location manager in British Columbia Canada, she is now the executive producer of the virtual production company profile studios. Her other sister is Dana Middleston, a television host and anchor, and Press Secretary/Communication director for former Governor Grey Locke.

Kennedy graduated from Shasta High School in Redding, California in 1971. She continued her education at San Diego State University where she measured in telecommunication and film. In her final year, Kennedy gains employment at San Diego local TV station, KCST, taking on various roles including camera operator, video editor, floor director, and finally at KCST news production coordinator.

Career

Kennedy’s career as a producer became with the iconic film E.T. the Extra-terrestrial (1982). She earned the “Best Picture Academy Award” nomination for the film, and it was the highest-grossing film in history until “Jurassic Park” surpassed it in 1993.

In 1988, Kennedy co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Spielberg and Frank Marshall. A few years later she produced ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom‘ alongside Marshall and George Lucas. She appeared in the film’s opening scene as a dancer.

Kennedy and Marshal formed The Kennedy/Marshal company with the deal at DreamWorks in 1991. During the 90s she used to work on more than 30 projects cape fear, the Bridges of medicine country, the Sixth Sense and sea biscuit Munich the curious case of Benjamin Button War House, and Lincoln. Kennedy has served as the producer on several Star Wars films and the Disney series The Mandalorian. Throughout her career, he has been nominated for eight Academy Awards. She also produced Spielberg’s Lincoln (2012), which was nominated for seven Golden Globes and twelve Academy Awards.

In May 2012, she steps down from Candy Marshal leaving Martial as sole principal of the film company. Shortly after she became co-chair of Lucas Film Ltd. alongside George Lucas. On October 30, 2012, when Lucas sold his company to Disney, Kennedy was promoted to president. In 2018 Kennedy’s contract to remain, president of Lucas Film, was extended for another 3 years, through October 30, 2021.
