How was the early life of Anthony Hopkins?

Philip Anthony Hopkins was born in the Margam neighborhood of Port Talbot. He was the son of baker Richard Arthur Hopkins and Annie Muriel Hopkins, née Yeates. Wiltshire, England was the home of one of his grandfathers. “Whenever I get a feeling that I may be special or different, I think of my father and I remember his hands – his hardened, broken hands”, he said, highlighting how his father’s working-class values have always influenced his life.

His time in school was wasted because he preferred spending time in creative activities like painting and drawing or practicing the piano over studying. In 1949, his parents requested him to attend Jones’ West Monmouth Boys’ School in Pontypool to learn discipline. After spending five terms there, he attended Cowbridge Grammar School in the Vale of Glamorgan to further his education.

Richard Burton, a fellow Welsh actor whom Hopkins first saw when he was fifteen, thought of him as an inspiration. Later on, he described Burton as “very gracious, very nice”, but went on to say, “I’m not sure where people get the impression that we were close friends. We’re both Welsh and grew up close to the same town, so I guess that’s why. Just to be clear, I didn’t know him at all”. He enrolled at Cardiff’s Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, receiving his degree in 1957.

Anthony Hopkins personal life

Hopkins has had three marriages. From 1966 to 1972, he wed actress Petronella Barker; from 1973 to 2002, he wed Jennifer Lynton; and since 2003, he has wed Stella Arroyave. In the early 2000s, Hopkins met Arroyave, an antique dealer who was born in Colombia. Hopkins believes that Arroyave was instrumental in helping him get over his depressive feelings at the time.

The actor claimed in a 2018 interview that he didn’t even know if he had grandchildren or not. His daughter Abigail Hopkins, who is also an actor and singer, is the daughter of his first marriage, but the two have been separated for a long time.

Hopkins stated that he was “high end” despite having an Asperger syndrome diagnosis three years before in a January 2017 interview with The Desert Sun. He stated that “it’s a great gift, actually” in 2020. He adopted Niblo, his pet cat, while he was living in Budapest. Hopkins follows a strictly vegetarian diet and avoids meat.\

Having the opportunity to play the role of Lecter again, which established a standard, for the less well-liked Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon (2002).
