Aretha Louise Franklin (1942-2018) is a singer, songwriter, and Pianist who define the golden age of soul music of the 1960s. She is the Queen of Soul. She was the greatest singer and the 9th greatest artist of all time. Franklin is one of the world’s best-selling music artists. The album has sold Over 75 million copies. She was the first artist to induct into the rock and roll half-frame In 1987. In 2008 she won her 18th Grammy award, making her one of the most honored artists in Grammy history.

Franklin’s Early Life and Career

Aretha Louise Franklin was born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S. Franklin’s mother, Barbara, was a gospel singer and pianist. Her father, C.L Franklin, used to preside over the New Bethel Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan, and was a minister of national influence. Then Aretha’s family relocated to Buffalo New York. Aretha turned 5 c.l.franklin had permanently relocated the family to Detroit, where he took over the pastorship of the New Bethel Baptist Church.

Aretha’s parents separated when she was six years old. Later her mother died due to a heart attack after four years on March 7, 1952. Franken was a gifted pianist with a powerful voice. She began singing in the choir of her father’s Church. By the age of 14, she had recorded some of her earliest tracks at his Church, released by a small label as the album Songs of Faith in 1956.

Aretha performed with C.L.’s traveling revival show. In the early 1960s legendary talent scout and record producer John Hammond signed Franklin to her first recording contract with Columbia Records. Those seven years in Columbia gave her experience and exposure but no big hits.

Franklin move to Atlantic Records In 1967 where she finally achieved the commercial breakthrough with ” I never loved a man”. Throughout the ’80s Franklin had major hits such as “Who zooming who” and “Freeway of Love” but her biggest song were collaborations

Franklin was the mother of four sons. She became pregnant at the age of 12 and give birth to her first child name Clearance after her father, on January 28, 1955. In one of her handwritten wills discovered in 2019, Franklin reveal that the father was Edward Jordan. On August 31 1957 at the age of 15 Franklin and a second child Father by Jordan named Edward Derone Franklin. She did not like to discuss her early pregnancies in interviews.

Franklin’s third child was born on February 1964. It was Franklin’s first husband Ted White’s son. She marry him at the age of 18 in 1961. Franklin faced domestic abuse after their marriage. She separated from White in 1968, and divorce him in 1969.

Franklin’s second husband was Glynn Truman who was an actor. Franklin married on April 11, 1978, at her father’s Church. She was the stepmother of Truman’s three children. They separated in 1982 and divorced in 1984.

On August 13 2018 reports were stating that Aretha was gravely ill at her home in Riverfront Towers Detroit. Haritha Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018, she died at home at the age of 76 years. The cause of her death was a malignant pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. Many celebrities in the entertainment industry and politicians along with former US President Barack Obama paid her tribute.
