Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Dorothy, to a former radio actress Dorthy (nee Nidelman} and advertising executive and former actor Christopher Ford. His father was a Catholic of Irish Descent, while their mother was an Ashkenazi Jew whose parents were emigrants from Minsk, Belarus hen in the Russian Empire.
In 1960, Ford graduated from Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois, and attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, where he was a Philosophy major and a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Ford took a drama class in the final quarter of his senior year to overcome his shyness and became fascinated with acting.
