Richard Crispin Armitage is an English actor and writer born on August 22, 1971. His debut leading role in the British television series North & South (2004) as John Thornton brought him recognition in the country. He came in International recognition for his role as dwarf king and leader Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit in three films.
In 2014, Armitage made his stage comeback after a twelve-year break, securing that reputation by playing the lead in a significant production. He was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role as John Proctor in The Crucible. The Crucible was a critically and commercially successful production of The Old Vic.

How was the early life of Richard Armitage?
The younger son of engineer John Armitage and secretary Margaret Armitage, Armitage was born in Leicester, England. He also has an elder brother named Chris Armitage. After studying elementary school at Huncote Community Primary School in Huncote, Blaby District, Leicestershire. Later, he enrolled in Brockington College, an Enderby comprehensive school, for his secondary schooling.
Armitage followed his passion for music at Brockington, participating in local orchestras and playing the cello in school. By the time he was 14, he had convinced his mother to let him go to an independent boarding school in Coventry called Pattison College, which specialized in the performing arts, so that he could focus on dance and drama.
